Why can’t America switch from gasoline to synthetic Bio-Diesel fuel?

Bio-Diesel works with no modiications to an existing diesel engine auto.
Bio-Diesel is AMERICAN made, and reduces our dependence on foreign supplies.
The market it now enjoys has saved the family farmer in America as it is made primarily from Soy.
You can use it full strength or in a blend with imported diesel.
It is better for your engine, as it burns cleaner; also better for the environment.
In a study in New England a Professor proposes making Bio-Diesel out of fast growing Alge, grown in seawater, and fed with sewage. The byproduct being clean water, and a way to replace the entire U.S. daily gasoline consumption.
There is no national leadership on this issue.
All autos should be diesel engines, and use this fuel.
Let us tell the Automakers, the Lawmakers, and the OPEC nations what to do with their Global warming gasoline

I beg to differ. The bio diesel does not burn in a regular diesel engine. It has to have slight modifications to do so.
Not having these mods will destroy a very expensive engine.
But I agree with the use of it and I believe ethanol should be used as well.

How much does bio-diesel cost to buy? How much does the engine conversion cost? How much will oil companies lose if the switch is made? How much power do oil companies have to influence the first two questions?

The oil companies would buy the rights to that technology and destroy it.

Who will pay for replacing every gasoline engine with a diesel engine? You?
Go do the math. If we were to magically discover additional farmland the size of California, and devote it entirely to growing bio-fuels, and also devote all the current domestic crop to bio-fuels (instead of human and animal feed), the total would replace only about 1/6 of our annual fuel consumption, even assuming an optimistic 50% conversion efficiency in manufacturing. (These numbers were originally calculated for ethanol but they are equally applicable to other bio-fuels.)
