And besides, ther’s only enough Natural Gas reserves to last 90 years by current standards, and if it replaced oil, it would probably run out before oil does. But I get your point.

I’m not talking about Greenhouse Gases, I’m talking about losing the dependence on oil which is the essential step to electric cars. There are already quite a few cars, made by Honda of course, that run on Hydrogen and emit…water.

Natural Gas is a good and feasible alterative, but it should only be a gateway fuel to a more sustainable vehicle. Natural still emits Greenhouse Gases, if your were to replace every Coal fired power station with Natural Gas stations, you would only reduce GHGs by 30 %, not enough. Hybird air-electric cars are the solution. The future should have diverse power sources, no m,ore monopolies.

If that’s true then why can’t the companies drill in more reserve areas?

Oh, yes . . . . that should have been obvious. Come to think of it I think that is how the natural gas cars are designed to run.

but you can set up a natural gas tank in the back of your vehicle or next to your spare tire
then you can drive both on gasoline AND natural gas, depending on which one you choose
I can say its more efficient I see that I can drive a much larger distance with the equivalent amount of gas than I ever could with the same amount of petrol, about 25-30 kilometers on average

Some cars are set up for natural gas, but they haven’t seemed to have caught on. One reason, possibly, is that we are set up for gasoline mainly and diesel, too. I’m surprised that you say natural gas is more efficient that petrol. Do you have the numbers for that?

why doesnt the USA use natural gas? I use it here in Poland and I can drive 50mph, have the heater on, the radio on, the lights on and its more efficient than petrol

Wow, you really know how to win a guy over to your way of thinking! I didn’t know that a 2008 Honda was a hillbillymobile. I’m not against electric cars. I wish I had one, but only as a hybrid, because I know it would be frustrating to drive one around here with the humidity. I remember the days of trying to drive with the inside of a car fogged up. You drive with your head out the window or towel off the windshield every 20 seconds. There are other legitimate points of view.

Well I live in the real world of Tennessee. You notice that the Democrat leaders don’t seem to be living much different. They like the big oil users, too.

What about taking an electric-air hybrid car?
You know that there are cars running on compressed air, right?
You dont need any powerplants for those.. you might sometimes have to stop for a couple of minutes to fill the air tank, tho.. every 200km or so..

I am not worrying anymore, the oil is gonna run up between now and 7 years. And then baby it’s no more cars and no more driving.

You don’t have to stop at a gas station, but it just transfers the fuel consumption elsewhere. If you get your electricity from coal fired plants, then the environmentalist will complain about that. Electric cars are fine for those who live in paradise-like climates like Southern Cal., but here in the South we use cars that have air conditioners and defrosters. These items would require a lot of energy from the battery of an electric car, and you wouldn’t get far using them.

unfortunately, much electric power in the US is still produced by burning fossil fuels. hopefully, we can change that in the next generation.

FatJan, its not that you have to be a movie star to own an electric car, its that the car companies won’t even allow you to own one. They simply stopped selling them. GM introduced the EV-1 after AeroVironment built the Sun Racer for the World Solar Challenge. After they came up with a working, functional prototype GM decided to lease them. After a month of leasing they took the cars back without the option to buy. If they gave us a chance to make a difference, we would. Just think about that.

First off, 90% of the population drive only 30-40 miles per day. So 70 is plenty, but not to the electric car companies, the new electric cars with Nickel Metal-Hydride batteries can get up to 200 miles per charge and can go up to 120 miles per hour. If you think electric cars aren’t worth the switch, read up on it and decide, don’t go off of what you see on some talk show. Mkay?

Honestly, ignoring any political/ environmental argument, the electric technology kicks any petrol car… checkout the British Lightning car, and the American Tesla

Well at 2.7p per mile, and 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, it is kinda tempting
I love that electric car makers have woken up to the fact no one will like them until they out perform the best of petrol…
Just looking into the stats, there’s no way petrol can keep up with what’s coming… no physical gearbox (wheel drive), 96% efficient motors, massive torque from start… full charge in 10 mins (British Lightning tech) it’s the end for petrol within 10 years I reckon…
