The water pump on my 82′ cutlass went out spraying the engine with coolant. Am I screwed?

It has a 455 Olds engine it’s not fuel injected. I drove it maybe 10 miles before towing it.

If your lucky you didn’t blow a head gasket and warp the head/s you might be alrite but I would get it taken care of before you start the engine and do more damage.

Seals gone in the pump.
They have a tell tail hole in them for this reason which is properly
where you seen the water come from.
That year more than likely would have been cast iron heads which take a lot more heat than alloy.
Replace the pump and just check for a head gasket.
I think you will be ok

I own a shop, and think this: No you are not screwed, but it would be wise to wash that stuff off the engine. Cover the distributor, and carburetor with plastic bags before you wash it though so you don’t get water in them and cause it to run bad, or not start. It doesn’t hurt anything for the coolant to go all over the place like that, but it does make a mess, and stinks, so wash it off with a low pressure hose that don’t throw it all over the place. Allow the engine to dry for a while before you try to start it again. A warm engine will dry quicker than a cold engine, so I would run it a while before trying to wash it, and that way it will dry out in no time at all.
Glad to help out, good Luck!!!
