Danny s asked:
what i wanna know if can pull the cartridge filter element and wash a it when it looks dirty. im running waste vegetable oil as fuel in my 84 mercedes 300sd car and my filters are getting dirty too soon. im already cleaning the primer filter once a week to prevent the filter of getting clooged. let me know if i can do the same with the racor element filter and what you use to clean it.

Why don’t you mix 2 gallons of diesel or kerosene in with the vegetable oil each time you fill up? That will keep the filters cleaner. It would be nice if Racor sold a washable element for your filter housing like the washable air filters being sold. The paper element may have bacteria eating away at the oil. Make sure you protect the injectors and pump from all this or you’ll be in for trouble. That’s another reason to mix the diesel in, to provide the proper lubrication for the injection pump and injectors.

Darn good question. I have never thought about cleaning the filter element, however I would think that you could use some kerosene to clean most contaminates out of it without any damage to the element. You should also try some kind of additive to put into the veggie oil to try and clean it that way before it runs through the filter systems. Lucas brand offers some good additives. I would do some research before I used an additive find out if the diesel additives would be just as effective in veggie oil. Good Luck.
